Retention is the hot-button issue of any organization that requires repeat engagement.

What began as my search for a method to solve our own retention challenges became a complete paradigm shift.

Only a few years into my Executive Director role, I was working to understand why engagement fluctuated and renewals felt inconsistent. It was during this process that I realized we didn’t have a programming problem. We had an alignment problem.

When I began viewing our organization through the lens of the different audiences we served — their motivations, expectations, and engagement styles — everything changed. Programming became more intentional. Communication became more clear. Onboarding became strategic instead of reactive.

Retention improved, not because we worked harder, but because we aligned better. That shift reshaped how I approached every aspect of programming and communication going forward.

Today, I help organizations step back and see their work from their audience’s perspective and align their systems accordingly.

Because when alignment strengthens, engagement deepens.

And when engagement deepens, retention follows.
